The AIDS Clinical Center (ACC) has started joint research on HIV infection in Vietnam since 2005 under the Japan Initiative for Global Research Network on Infectious Diseases (J-GRID). Although J-GRID was completed in 2019, we are maintaining the HIV patient cohort at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases (NHTD) (about 1,800 people registered), expanding the research site to new facilities, and carrying out various research on issues related to HIV care. We would like to continuously strengthen our cooperative relationships with WHO, CDC, Vietnam administration of HIV/AIDS control, Ministry of Health to further contribute to the improvement of HIV treatment and policy.
1) Study of chronic complications among HIV-infected individuals
The association between the prevalence of metabolic diseases (diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia), socioeconomic factors (income, education history, etc.), and the life-style among the HIV-infected participants is investigated. The study is supported by the NCGM Intramural Research Fund.
2) Study of health literacy for non-communicable disease (NCDs) prevention among HIV-infected individuals
A mixed method study is conducted to explore the ability to engage with information about NCDs prevention, i.e., health literacy, among HIV-infected individuals.
